Social visit

WEST PARIS — Some men from West Paris Baptist Church are meeting at the General Store every Friday morning for breakfast and fellowship for as long as anyone wishes to stay. There are no dues or fees. The social visit is open to any faith. For more information, call Ted Jones at 515-0362.

Moon paddle

DENMARK — A guided full moon paddle in the Bridgton Lakes Region will take place Friday, July 15. Nurture Through Nature’s Maine Guide, Jen Deraspe, will lead the group. Cost is $50 dollars and includes canoe, life jacket and paddle. Bring a companion and both take $5 off. Participants may bring their own kayak. Benefit supper

PARIS — The Foster Carroll American Legion Post 72 will sponsor a benefit supper for George Brown at 5 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the Legion Hall on Church Street, South Paris.

George has major medical problems. He has been very active in helping others in our community for many years. He is a veteran, a member of the post and a volunteer fireman.

The supper includes chicken pie with all the fixings along with homemade dessert pies. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and under.

Scholarship sale

OTISFIELD — The annual Flamingos & Fleas Scholarship Sale to benefit the scholarship fund of the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Otisfield Community Hall, Route 121.

The sale will offer a wide assortment of wild and wonderful treasures. In addition to treasures, there will be goodies and lemonade. For more information, call Deb at 539-4619.

Historical society

PARIS — The Paris Cape Historical Society will have a booth at Founder’s Day on Saturday, July 16. Books, postcards, magnets, paperweights and prints pertaining to Paris history will be for sale.

On Thursday, July 21, at 7 p.m., the Paris Cape Historical Society will host its monthly meeting at the museum at 77 High St., South Paris. The featured speaker will be Michael Lovejoy, who was involved in local clock repair work for many years. The lecture will be a bit of the history of clocks along with stories about clocks he has worked on in his career. Sometime ago he donated an old wooden works clock to the society that has an interesting history. In recent times he has been restoring the old clock that was in the principal’s office of the now razed Paris High School, that rang the class bells and kept the school year on time.

All are welcome to attend, and refreshments will follow.

Pie sale

PARIS HILL — The Ladies of the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church will hold a pie sale on Founder’s Day, Saturday, July 16. The pies are homemade and will include all the favorite flavors.

Lawn sale

PARIS — An indoor/outdoor lawn sale will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, South Paris. The sale will take place rain or shine.

A large array of household items, clothing, gifts, gadgets and more, both old and new, will be on sale. A special “Christmas in July” sale will feature both gifts and decorations. Hot dogs and homemade ice cream will also be available.

Public breakfast

HARRISON — The Ronald G. St. John VFW Post 9328 on Waterford Road will host a public breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 17. Donations are requested.

Barry Lowe

OXFORD — Barry Lowe will be in concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Hosanna Church, 109 Schoolhouse Road. This is part of Barry’s 2011 tour, Love Them Enough to Tell Them.
