Legion dance

AUBURN — A dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the New Auburn American Legion Post 153, 71 Main St., to benefit Hope Haven Soup Kitchen. Bring in canned goods for the cover charge. Southern rock music will be performed by the All Veterans Review Band.

Free clothes

LEWISTON — A clothing distribution will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 15, at the Lewiston Root Cellar, 89 Birch St.

Free professional and casual clothing items and shoes of all sizes for infants, children, teens, men and women. Open to everyone.

Clothing donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Only donate what you would wear yourself. For more information, call 782-3659.

Legion fundraiser

AUBURN — American Legion Post 31 will host a fundraiser from noon until midnight on Saturday, July 16, to raise money for 15-year-old cancer patient Courtney Adamen of Auburn.

The event, which includes a barbecue and spaghetti dinner, will feature 14 live bands, including Ascent to Power, 13 High, Tyme Warp and False Prophecy.

Tickets are $20 and are available at Victor News, Park Street, Lewiston, at the Post home, 426 Washington St., or by calling Brian Woodsome, 376-8099.

Boot drive

LEWISTON — The Auburn and Lewiston firefighters will team up for the annual L/A Harley “Fill the Boot/Boot Drive” starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 16.

The firefighters will be at L/A Harley, 839 Main St., wearing their MDA T-shirts collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. All of the proceeds raised during this event will go directly to the MDA to help  children and families that are affected by this deadly disease. The firefighters will be fundraising by walk-in donations as well as vehicle passerby donations.

L/A Harley will have events and specials throughout the day so bring the family, donate to a great cause and make a day out of it.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on July 11 were as follows.

Reiki class

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing at Central Maine Medical Center is offering a free two-part reiki class for beginners and practitioners. Sessions will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, July 21 and Aug. 25, at the Dempsey Center, 10 High St., Suite 301.

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on technique designed to relieve stress and discomfort. Clients are encouraged to relax, fully clothed, as a practitioner’s hands are lightly placed on or near the head, shoulders, arms and legs. Reiki is part of the Wellness Services provided by the Dempsey Center, which compliment the treatments and medications prescribed by a physician.

The class is for center clients and those interested in volunteering. Participants must attend both sessions. Presented by Dempsey Center Reiki Coordinator, Meredith Kendall, RN, MSN. Participation is limited to 12.
