BETHEL — It took nine nail-biting innings, but Bethel-Locke Mills (9-9) found a way to shake off Brunswick with a 6-5 victory in an American Legion baseball game Saturday.
Brunswick was leading 4-3 after six innings before each team tried finish off each other in the crucial ninth inning.
In the top of the ninth, Anthony Viola, who also doubled, blasted solo home run in the top the ninth to give Brunswick (8-9) a 5-3 lead. But Bethel-Locke Mills came to life in the bottom of the ninth.
Zack Mills began the bottom of the ninth for Bethel-Locke Mills with a single. Drew Wilson walked and Jeb Clarke’s sacrifice bunt moved everybody over. Alec Manning was intentionally walked to load the bases. Then Danny Whitney blasted a two-run double to tie the game at 5-5 and leaving two men on second and third base. Corey Howard was walked intentionally and Ben Field also got on with a walk, scoring Manning for the winning run.
