LEWISTON – The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society and Alley Cats LA are accepting donations for their second annual yard sale scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13. The sale will take place at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

All donated items must be salable and in clean condition. No appliances or large pieces of furniture please. For pick-up or drop-off information, contact Melanie Bolduc at 784-1533.

For those interested in helping with the yard sale or volunteering their time with Alley Cats LA, an informational meeting is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, July 31, at the Humane Society. They will also accept donated items at that time.

Sponsored by the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Alley Cats of LA is a public group open to all individuals who know of or are concerned about feral cats in need of assistance in our community. Special emphasis is placed upon a coordinated Trap-Neuter-Release Program, aimed at reducing the feral cat populations. The goal of the TNR Program is to improve the quality of life for the homeless cats, while reducing their numbers by attrition. After the cats are sterilized and vaccinated, kind hearted volunteer caretakers continue to feed the population, but the cats are no longer able to reproduce. In addition to saving lives, nuisance behaviors and citizen complaints will be reduced or eliminated and costs to municipalities decrease.

The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society is located at 55 Strawberry Ave. To learn more about volunteering at the shelter or adopting an animal, call 783-2311 or visit the website at www.gahumane.org. You can also join them on www.facebook/GAHumane.
