MECHANIC FALLS — Harvest Hill Farms will celebrate Maine Open Farm Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 24, at their Route 26 location at 5 Harvest Hill Way.

Maine Open Farm Day is sponsored by the Maine Department of Agriculture. The goal of the day is to encourage residents and tourists to visit a farm and see what farm life is all about.

Owners Peter and Kathie Bolduc will offer tours of the petting barn and the barnyard where the public can get “up close and personal” with the animals and learn facts about each of the farm animals. They will also be providing free balloons for the children that tour the petting barn.

Attendees will also learn about the beginnings of the farm. The farm dates back to the turn of the century (1800-1900) when the Morey Family first owned the farm from Boston. Enlargements of some of the original antique photos of the farm dating back to the early 1900s will be on display along with news write-ups about the farm written in the 1920s.

Farm House Pizza, located in the restored farmhouse, will offer their own Harvest Hill Farms range fed beef “burgers for a buck” all day. The Country Market will offer free bite-sized selected samples of their bakery products.

Luther Gray, member of the Maine Draft Horse Association, will be at the farm offering horse drawn hay wagon rides.

Harvest Hill Farms is also the home of Maine’s most popular Halloween venues which include Pumpkin Land, the Big Corn Maze Adventure and the Gauntlet Haunted Night Ride.
