BETHEL — A man charged with attacking a deputy last week faces additional charges in the incident.
Deputy Matthew Noyes further charged Bethel resident James D. Irish, 27, Sunday night with operating under the influence with priors, failure to submit to arrest or detention, criminal mischief and operating without a license.
Noyes said the charges were based on additional evidence not presented Friday when Irish was charged with attempting to elude an officer and assault on an officer. Noyes was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital early Friday morning after he was injured in a struggle with Irish.
According to a report on the incident, Noyes turned on his flashing lights when he saw a van driving erratically, leading to a high-speed chase until the driver, Irish, jumped from his vehicle near his home on Chandler Hill Road.
After a long struggle, Irish escaped in the dark, the report said, leaving Noyes with cuts, abrasions and a possible concussion. Irish was later caught using a Maine State Police dog. Noyes was treated and released Friday with no signs of concussion and was back at work Sunday night.
Noyes said Monday that after the incident, “I wasn’t in a condition where I could really write an accurate report.” On Sunday, he completed a report with additional charges based on the incident Friday and arrested Irish, who was released on a $1,500 unsecured bond shortly after.
Irish is set to appear in Oxford County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 6
