NORWAY — Stephens Memorial Hospital has announced a return engagement for Maine professional artist, David Stengelsen. This exhibit of Stengelsen’s paintings will include portraits, some large florals and a new night painting of New York City titled, “The Madison Avenue side of St. Patrick’s Cathedral,” which the artist states took some four months to complete.

Stengelsen is a resident of South Paris, having moved from California in 1988. In California he studied art and music at Los Angeles State College and exhibited widely in Long Beach, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

All of his paintings are oil on canvas. Among his influences he lists German expressionist painters Ernst Kirshner and Oscar Kokoshka, as well as American painters Neil Wellever, Alex Katz, Fairfield Porter and Philip Guston.
