FARMINGTON — The New England Babe Ruth 13-15 Tournament begins Friday at Hippach Field.

Hosted by the local Franklin County Babe Ruth led by Dave Duley, eight teams from New England states will compete in a double elimination tournament for baseball players, ages 13-15.

Games begin Friday, July 29, and continue through to Aug. 3.

A team from Essex Junction, Vt., arrived Thursday afternoon to stay in Scott Hall at the University of Maine at Farmington. Some players opted for dorms while others are staying at local motels.

The 14 Vermont team members are 14- and 15-year-olds, said Coach Andy Almeida while unloading vehicles in the Old South Church parking lot next to Scott Hall.

Friday’s scheduled games include Eastern Massachusetts versus Vermont at 10 a.m.; Connecticut versus Rhode Island at 1 p.m.; Western Massachusetts versus New Hampshire at 4 p.m. and the Franklin County team versus Maine’s Apple Valley at 7:30 p.m.

The games are open to the public with a fee. An all-tourney pass is $10 and a one-day pass is $5.

The Farmington Recreation Department will provide an opportunity for small children and their mothers attending Friday games to enjoy the wading pool at Hippach Field from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Recreation Director Steve Shible said. It’s only open on Friday as a welcoming treat from the Farmington Recreation Department.
