LYNCHTOWN TOWNSHIP — Soft sand is being examined as the cause of a plane flipping over into a lake Saturday night in northern Oxford County.

Game Warden Reggie Hammond reported Sunday evening that a plane piloted by Mike Falconari flipped over into three to four feet of water on Aziscohos Lake about 8 p.m. Saturday. Falconari, who was the sole occupant of the plane, escaped without injury.

Hammond said the incident is being investigated by the Maine State Police, but that it appears that Falconari’s plane got caught in some soft sand when he attempted to take off from a sand bar on the northern part of the lake.
