A young Rumford woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Wisconsin on Saturday.
Rebecca L. Cushman, 21, was in a vehicle with Kyle L. Monahan, 21, of Shullsburg, Wis., when it left a Lafayette County road, traveled some distance, and hit a creek embankment before rolling over just before 8 p.m. Saturday, the website Channel3000.com said.
Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Cushman was taken to Lafayette Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the website said. Monahan was brought by helicopter to a Rockford, Ill. hospital, the website said.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said speed was a factor in the accident, which totaled the vehicle, the website said. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, according to the website.
Cushman was born in Lewiston and went to school in Mexico, graduating from Mountain Valley High School in 2008. She had been living in Chicago where she worked as a nanny.
By Monday night, more than 1,000 people had “liked” a Facebook page dedicated to Cushman’s memory.
