OGUNQUIT — The Grammy-winning folk-rock duo Indigo Girls will give two concerts in mid-October at Jonathan’s Ogunquit.

With their 14th album, “Beauty Queen Sister,” set for release on Oct. 4, the Indigo Girls will start their promotional tour on Oct. 6 in Georgia and work their way north to Ogunquit on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 18-19.

This will be a VIP show with only 240 seats available at each show. The Indigo Girls — Amy Ray and Emily Saliers — usually average more than 1,300 seats per concert.

“Beauty Queen Sister” reveals a fierce longing for a more idyllic existence while still celebrating the extraordinary in everyday living.

Saliers and Ray began performing together in high school, transferred their honest, urgent performing style onto the stages of countless small clubs and then had their breakthrough in 1989 with the release of their self-titled album. This album included the first hit, “Closer To Fine,” and went on to win Best Contemporary Folk Recording at the 1990 Grammys.

The duo’s constant touring, as well as staunch dedication to a number of social and environmental causes, earned them a devoted following over the years.

“We really work hard to not lean on any tried-and-true path in making our albums,” Ray said in a prepared release. “So when it comes to writing new songs and working with different musicians, every record feels like a completely different adventure for us.”

Shows will be at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $82.50. Jonathan’s Restaurant is at 92 Bourne Lane. For more information, call 646-4777.
