ANSWER: One option would be the Red Cross, which offers a variety of first aid, CPR and other classes. You can see what they have to offer by entering your zip code at http://tinyurl.com/dyzp2p. Sun Spots tried 04240 and turned up fall courses in Lewiston and Topsham.

Another option is an adult education class. Those should be starting up soon. You may get a brochure through the mail (Sun Spots received two from nearby districts) or you can see what is available at www.maineadulted.org.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I appreciate your column. It helps me a lot. Now I have a request.

I fell and hurt my knee. I have one metal crutch with the band for the upper arm and side grasp. I can’t find another one. I have checked the local pharmacy, and they don’t have them.

I am hoping someone has one kicking around and would like to part with it. I am willing to pay a small fee and pick it up. I will only need it a few weeks. Thank you. — Betsy, South Paris, 674-2410

ANSWER: One option would be to borrow a crutch from St. Mary’s Medical Equipment To Go. METGO loans equipment to those in need at no charge, a service made possible by a generous donation from the L & A fund and operated by St. Mary’s volunteers. DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a nearly new Playtex breast pump kit and case that I would like to donate. Do you know of any organizations that could use this? I know I can drop it off at Goodwill, but there may be someone out there who can’t afford to buy one. — Anonymous via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots was hopeful that the METGO program described in the last two answers would be an answer for you as well. But when she emailed with St. Mary’s Jenny W. Cowie, coordinator of Volunteer & Interpreter Services, she said they could not take your breast pump: “We do accept donations such as walkers, canes, crutches, commodes, raised toilet seats, rollators, wheelchairs, etc. The items that we don’t accept are items that have material that we cannot properly sanitize such as a walking cast or a breast pump.

Perhaps readers will have suggestions.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I enjoy your column very much. To the lady who asked about knee-length compression stockings on Aug. 17, I have three pair of the good heavier type. I’d be happy to give them to her if she would call me at 777-1054 or 441-5207. They are beige in color. Thank you. — Rita, Auburn
