NEW VINEYARD — Deputies are investigating a burglary at a residence on Wells Road.
It is estimated the value of the property stolen is about $24,000, which includes eight firearms, Franklin County Sheriff Lt. Niles Yeaton said Tuesday morning.
The homeowner was out of the house and a neighbor tending the owner’s animals discovered the burglary at about 6:45 p.m. Monday, Yeaton said.
The burglary was committed between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., he said.
Deputy Nathan Reid responded to the burglary report along with other deputies.
A green, stand-up, Sentry gun safe, about 5-feet tall, was taken along with seven rifles and one pistol, Yeaton said.
“It would have taken at least two people to carry it,” he said. Deputies believe it was put in a vehicle and driven away.
Also stolen was several thousands of dollars in U.S. currency and prescription medications, Yeaton said.
“We do have a couple of leads that we are following now,” he said.
