JAY — A local woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car drifted over the centerline on Route 4 and struck a tractor-trailer head-on, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

Jeanette C. Nault, 38, of 110 Macomber Hill Road died at the scene, White said. The truck driver was not injured, he said.

Nault was heading south in her 2005 Chevrolet car. The tractor-trailer loaded with pallets, driven by Stanley E. Bubier III, of 8 Allen Pond Road in Greene was heading in the opposite direction. The truck is owned by B + T Pallet Recycling Inc. in Lewiston.

The accident happened at about 2:40 p.m. just south of Carousel Crafts in North Jay, White said.

He said several witnesses reported seeing Nault’s vehicle drifting over the centerline.

The truck driver tried to avoid Nault’s vehicle and went to the extreme right of the road, partially into the shoulder, White said.

Blood samples were taken from each driver, which is standard practice in fatal accidents, the chief said.

He said the state Medical Examiner’s Office would try to determine whether Nault suffered a medical issue prior to the crash.

Maine State Police reconstructed the accident and the state police Commercial Enforcement Unit tended to the truck. Both were still on the scene at about 6 p.m.

Route 4 was shut down for several hours and traffic was rerouted.
