Board: Sabattus selectmen

Met: Tuesday night, Oct. 4*

New first responder equipment

Issue: After the Fire Department got $9,000 from the Stephen King Foundation to purchase first responder emergency equipment, the fire chief needed the board’s approval to spend the grant.

The scoop: After much discussion, the board voted 4-1 to start allowing firefighters who are trained emergency medical technicians to carry equipment in their personal vehicles starting in January. They’ll assist residents who need immediate help while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

Up next: The Fire Department will report back at town meeting on how it has worked out.
