RUMFORD — Friends of the Rumford Public Library held their annual meeting on Oct. 13.
Generous gifts in memory of Burt deFrees and Michael Mawhinney were acknowledged.
Luke Sorensen presented the librarian’s report in which he addressed financial issues, patron services, active volunteer program and the library’s new website. Three new computers have been purchased through a grant. The downloadable library currently has more than 2,000 books available to library patrons. Sorensen is looking forward to assisting patrons who need to learn how to use Nooks or Kindles. He is giving individual guidance at the moment but if demand increases, he will offer free training sessions to groups at the library.
Participants engaged in a lively discussion on how to increase membership and on the mission and future activities of the group.
The next meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 17, at 4:30 p.m.
Library hours are Monday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
