AUGUSTA — Robert J. Bernard, 90, formerly of Penobscot Street, Rumford, died Friday, Oct. 28, at the hospice unit at Togus.

He was born in Mexico Jan. 18, 1921, a son of John J. and Margaret Bernard. He was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the National Guard.

Bob was employed at the Oxford Paper Co. in the rewinder department and was a member of the 25-Year Club. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion and the Elks.

He enjoyed fishing, playing cribbage, playing cards at the Eagles, attending area football games, and was an avid reader at the library.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Pawlick and husband, Thaddeus, of Oakland, a sister, Ann Young, of Falls Church, Va.; three grandchildren, Jessica Soucy and husband, Christopher, Kate Pawlick and Dresden Pawlick; and three great-grandchildren, Natalie Soucy, Abenezer Soucy and Silas Pawlick.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Theresa O’Hearn Bernard; four sisters, Julia Wulff, Lorraine Dawson, Lena Louvat and Helen Henry; and three brothers, Edmund Bernard, Andrew Bernard and Anthony Bernard.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Togus Hospice Unit for the love and care given to Bob during his illness.
