RUMFORD – Karyssa Kneeland, a senior at Mountain Valley High School, currently has a work of art on display in Augusta as part of the Maine Youth Excellence in Art Exhibit. The work of art, which is titled “Papillion et Fleur,” was created using colored pencil and watercolor.

Kneeland’s artwork, which is one of 30 on display, can be seen in Room 209 of the Burton M. Cross State Office Building, the large office complex directly behind the state capitol building.

The Maine Arts Commission organized the Excellence in Art program.

An opening reception was held on Nov. 2 at the Blaine House in Augusta. At the reception, Maine’s first lady, Ann LePage, awarded Kneeland a gold medal and certificate for her excellent work in art.

The entire exhibit can be seen on the web gallery at mainearts.maine.gov/arts_in_education/gallery/myeia_gallery.aspx.
