PORTLAND, Maine — Organizers with Occupy Maine say they are working on a detailed response to city officials who want to know how protesters plan to stay safe and warm this winter.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Occupy Maine told the city in an email Tuesday that it has two nurses providing medical care at its encampment, that it may seek permission to use a woodstove, and that it will raise funds to cover the costs of park upkeep.
The detailed response is expected to be ready by next Tuesday.
Spokeswoman Nicole Clegg says the city is primarily concerned with protester safety.
Occupy Maine in Portland has been at Monument Square and Lincoln Park since Sept. 30. John Branson, a lawyer representing Occupy Maine, says winter safety has been discussed.
