ROCKLAND — Award-winning journalist and author Kevin C. Mills will sign his recently released novel, “Breakwater” on Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Rockland Public Landing. A percentage of all sales will go to the Friends of the Rockland Breakwater.

The signing is part of the 3.3-mile Icy Swim For Lighthouses fundraiser. Swimmer Gary “Creekman” Sredzienski will swim from Owls Head Lighthouse, past the Rockland Breakwater and to the Middle Pier at the Public Landing in an effort to raise $15,000 for the American Lighthouse Foundation.

Mills will be at the Public Landing from 9 a.m. to noon.

“Breakwater” is a follow-up to Mills’ historical novel, “Sons and Daughters of the Ocean,” based loosely on his maritime ancestors and life during the age of sail. “Breakwater” is another historical work that looks at how life can change without warning, and be dictated by destiny. It features two characters, generations apart, whose lives are defined by the storms they face. In a search for calm amid that storm, both characters discover a peace beyond all understanding.

Mills has been honored numerous times by the Maine Press Association and New England Press Association. His grandfather was a longtime Rockland resident and former assistant lighthouse keeper at the Rockland Breakwater.

Mills has also written a nonfiction work, “Sidelined,” an offbeat look at his sports journalism career.

Mills will also be at the Maine Authors Publishing offices, 558 Main St., from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. For more information, visit www.kevincmills.com.
