JAY — A Fayette woman was arrested Friday following an investigation into the theft of jewelry valued at approximately $2,000 from a Main Street residence in Jay in October.
Jennie Ann Newell, 24, of Fayette was arrested on a charge of theft by receiving stolen property by the Jay Police Department.
Nine pieces of jewelry were reported stolen from the home on Oct. 14, Jay police Detective Richard Caton IV said Friday.
He issued a warrant for Newell’s arrest because she was in possession of the jewelry, he said. The jewelry was found at a jewelry store in Auburn. All nine pieces were recovered.
The case is still under investigation.
Newell was released from Franklin County Detention Center Friday on $3,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21.
