SABATTUS — A reward is being offered for information after The Settlement was hit by a weekend burglary. A man wearing socks on his hands took off with a large haul of cigarettes on Saturday night, according to police Chief Tony Ward.

The Settlement is a variety store and restaurant at 6 Crowley Road. Ward said the burglary, recorded by a security camera, happened at 11:17 p.m. Saturday.

He said a man broke a plate glass door and, once inside, filled bags with cigarettes. The man also forced the cash register open, damaged it, and took an undisclosed amount of money.

Ward said he was last seen on the tape running away from the restaurant. No vehicle was seen on the camera recording.

Ward said a concerned citizen has offered $1,000 for information that leads to the identification and successful prosecution of the thief.

The thief was described as a white male with a thin build. He wore a red bandanna across his face, a black hoodie with a white lining and socks on his hands. He’s facing charges of felony burglary and theft.

“This is the second time this business has been burglarized in two years,” Ward said. “It’s one of those things that’s very frustrating.”

There doesn’t appear to be a connection between this incident and the older break-in.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sabattus police at 375-6952.
