FARMINGTON — Junior guard Gabby Foye poured in an impressive 28 points as Mt. Blue took a 59-37 victory over Brewer in KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Cougars (1-1) jumped out in front early with a 14-8 first quarter lead, and a 24-16 halftime margin. Amy Hilton provided another 10 points, while Jaycee Mullen recorded 10 rebounds to go along with six points for Mt. Blue.
Forward Deaven Smith tabulated a team-high 12 points for the Witches (0-2) in the losing effort.
Oxford Hills 42, Mt. Ararat 39
TOPSHAM — Abbie Eastman and Ashley Ward netted nine points each Tuesday as Oxford Hills squeaked by Mt. Ararat 42-39 in an early-season KVAC girl’s basketball matchup Tuesday.
The Vikings (2-0) had seven players register points in a well-balanced attack.
Leah Estes led the Eagles (1-1) with a game-high 12 points, while Mallory Nelson chipped in with eight.
Gray-NG 50, Sacopee Valley 17
GRAY — Michele Dehetre buried five 3-pointers, including three staight to end the third quarter to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 50-17 victory over Sacopee Valley on Tuesday.
All ofDehetre’s 15 points came behind the arc, where she hit on five of her nine attempts.
The Patriots (2-0) led 14-5, 23-10 and 37-12 at the quarter breaks.
Haylee Cote chipped in with 11 points and tied for the team lead in rebounds with Leandra Grant and Maria Valente at seven apiece.
Sacopee Valley fell to 0-2.
Erskine 43, Lewiston 37
LEWISTON — Meryl Bond ignited a 15-8 third-quarter run as Erskine pulled away to a 43-37 win over Lewiston in a KVAC girls’ basketball tilt Tuesday.
Bond finished with 21 points to lead the Eagles (1-1), including six in that key third frame. Bridget Humphrey chipped in with 14 points in what was primarily a two-athlete attack.
The Blue Devils (0-2) were paced by Genessa Talarico with 10 points, while veteran Brie Wilson added seven.
Cony 65, Edward Little 64 (2OT)
AUGUSTA — Junior guard Josie Lee scored the game-winning free throw with no time left on the clock as Cony edged out a 65-64 victory over Edward Little in double overtime KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Senior guard Mia Diplock collected a game-high 27 points on nine field goals and five free throws, including four from beyond the arc for the Rams (2-0). Melanie Guzman added 12 points for Cony.
Junior guard Ashlee Arnold racked up 24 points in regulation before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Kory Norcross pulled the trigger on four field goals, including three from three-point range for 11 points in the losing effort.
Leavitt 62, Winslow 47
TURNER — Adrianna Newton piled up 22 points, pulled down eight rebounds and was responsible for four steals as Leavitt leveled Winslow, 62-47 in a girls’ basketball game Tuesday night.
The undefeated Hornets (2-0) built 33-20 lead at the half and exploded with 21 more points in the third quarter. Leavitt’s Kirsten scored 18 points and was credited with six assists and four steals.
There were no double-digits scorers for Winslow (0-2), which scored only 19 points for two quarters.
Rangeley 62,
Greater Portland Christian 24
RANGELEY — Rangeley jumped out to a 21-point advantage in the first frame and raced away to post a 62-24 win over Greater Portland Christian in EWC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
Taylor Esty led the Lakers (2-0) with 15 points, while Chantal Carrier chipped in with 12 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Tori Letarte also contributed with 11 points in a well-balanced attack.
Susanne Gonzalez led GPC (1-1) with an 11-point performance, their only player in double figures.
Wells 48, Poland 33
POLAND — The Wells girl’s basketball saved the best for last, using a 16-2 run in the fourth quarter to record a 48-33 victory over Poland in WMC action Tuesday.
Alison Furness led Wells (2-0) with a 16-point effort, while Kelly Beisswanger and Abby Moody each added nine. The contest was within one point at the break and remained close until the final stanza.
The Knights (0-2) were paced by Michaella Arsenault with 11 points, while Katrina Seeley chipped in with 10.
