AUBURN — Tom Applegate scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as St. Dom’s (2-2) bounced Withrop (0-4) with a 43-34 victory in a boys’ basketball game Saturday.

The Saints built a narrow 20-18 lead over the Ramblers before pulling away in the second half.

Joe Bryant helped St. Dom’s with his 11 points and six assists. For Winthrop, Hunter Kilgore scored 12 points.

Falmouth 61, Poland 58

POLAND — Poland stormed back from a 12-point deficit in the final quarter, but the comeback fell just short as Falmouth hung on for a 61-58 victory.

Falmouth (3-1) hit two 3-pointers to open the final quarter to open a 59-47 lead. The KNights closed to within three poiunts, but a couple of free throws late sealed the victory.

Jake Littlefield led Poland (2-2) with a game-high 23 points, including 3 3-pointers. Ricky Bryant and Logan Nicjhols chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Matt Packard led four Falmouth players in double figures with with 15 points.

Girls’ basketball

Madison 49, Mt. Abram 47

SALEM — Sophomore forward Alex Jarvis drained 15 points, including an overtime free throw, to help seal a 49-47 victory for Madison over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Bulldogs (3-0) lead by seven at the half.

Junior guard Tori Beane tossed three treys, including one at the buzzer for the Roadrunners (1-2), to force an overtime opportunity. Beane had a total of 11 points, while junior guard Mikayla Luce notched a game-high 18 points for Mt. Abram.

The Roadrunners failed the overtime opportunity when Emily McKenney and Jarvis sank the only overtime points from the charity stripe for Madison.

Greenville 43, Buckfield 23

BUCKFIELD — Greenville held Buckfield to single-digit scoring all four quarters and Tricia Gilbert threw in the game-high 14 points as the Lakers dismissed the Bucks with a 43-23 victory in a girls’ basketball game Saturday.

Greenville held a 14-12 lead before opening up their offense in the second half. Kaylee Warman scored 11 points for the Lakers.

For the Bucks, Caitlin Henderson scored the team-high seven points.

Falmouth 50, Poland 44

POLAND — Junior forward Anna Hickey and senior guard Laney Evers scored nine points each to help navigate Falmouth to a 50-44 victory over Poland in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

Freshman guard Michaella Arsenault collected 10 of her game-high 19 points in the final frame for the Knights (0-4). She had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Poland’s late run was in part the result of the Yachtsmen (3-1) getting into foul trouble. They had three straters with four fouls in the final stretch.

Emily Bolduc pitched in with two field goals and seven free throws equaling 11 points for Poland in the losing effort.

Cape Elizabeth 39, Gray-New Gloucester 36

GRAY — Cape Elizabeth demonstrated its accuracy at the free-throw line and Kate Miklovic scored 16 points and dropped in three 3-pointers as the Capers (2-2) shook off Gray-New Gloucester, 39-36, in a girls’ basketball game Saturday.

Kayla Ratice scored 10 points for the Capers who took control of the game from the foul line in the final minutes.

The Patriots’ (2-1) Leandra Grant scored 10 points.

Girls’ hockey

Scarborough 4, Leavitt/Edward Little 2

PORTLAND — Rachael Wallace scored the eventual game winning goal on a power play at 6:25 of the third period as Scarborough skated to a 4-2 victory over Leavitt/Edward Little in girls’ ice hockey action Saturday.

The Red Storm swept through the second and third periods with a pair of goals in each frame.

Tori Couture crafted several fine passing plays for the Red Hornets.

Goalie Tori Sanford made 19 saves for Leavitt, while Devan Kane turned away 17 shots to earn the win in net for Scarborough.

Boys’ hockey

Edward Littl 7, Leavitt 0

AUBURN — The Edward Little Red Eddies boys’ hockey team captured the 18th annual Gippers Holiday Classic with the 7-0 victory over the Leavitt Hornets on Saturday.

Drew Lupardo had two goals and and two assists to lead the offensive attack. Jared Pelletier and Ben Johnston each had a goal and an assist for the Red Eddies in the exhibition tournament.

Brady Lare, Chris Poisson, and Travis Landry rounded out the scoring for EL.

Alan Nelson made 15 saves in net for the Red Eddies while Nick Allen stopped 21 shots for Leavitt in the losing cause.
