BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Famed photographer and world traveler, Andre Gallant, has agreed to be the jurist of the seventh annual Maine Photography Show. The MPS is the premier juried state-wide exhibition of photography in Maine.

Entries for the 2012 Maine Photography Show will be taken starting on Dec. 1 and continue through Feb. 1. All entries are taken online. Go to www.mainephotographyshow.com for an entry form and all needed information. The contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers with a Maine address.

The MPS opens to the public Saturday, April 14, and continues to May 5. The exhibition is produced and presented by the MPS Committee of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation and takes place at its spacious gallery, One Townsend Ave., in midtown Boothbay Harbor.

Gallant, who currently lives in Saint John, New Brunswick, is the author of books such as “Photographing People at Home and Around the World,” “Destinations: A Photographer’s Journey” and “Dreamscapes: Exploring Photo Montages.” He also was the photographer for the books: “Winter,” “The Great Lakes” and “Seacoasts,” all written by Pierre Berton.

Gallant teaches photography workshops with Freeman Patterson, with whom he co-wrote “Photo Impressionism and the Subjective Image,” as well as the revised edition of “Photography for the Joy of It.” He lectures internationally as well as in the U.S.

Gallant is a regular contributor to Photo Life, and his work has appeared in numerous magazines. He is the recipient of two National Magazine Awards for his photography.
