AUBURN — Joyce A. Carlton, 76, of Canton, died peacefully, Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

She was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Canton, a daughter of Christopher G. and Eva (Rundlett) Allanach Sr. She attended local schools, graduating from Canton High School.

On Nov. 22, 1952, she married Robert Norris “Bob” Carlton in Rumford. They made their home in Canton as she worked at the Canton Drug Store, the Canton Bank and local area shoe shops.

She was a longtime member of the Canton Baptist Church and the Ponemah Rebekeh Lodge 28.

Joyce and her husband were fortunate to have spent 24 winters in St. Petersburg, Fla., leaving in mid-October and returning home to visit for the holidays. While in Florida, they stayed busy selling Carlton’s of Maine shoes at various flea-markets and boat shows.

She enjoyed playing BINGO at the AMVETS Hall in Jay and the Rumford Armory, playing cards with her sisters and NASCAR racing.

She is survived by her children, Mark Carlton and his wife, Rachel, of North Jay and Dana Carlton of Canton; siblings, Edith LeBlanc of Livermore Falls, Jean Carlton and her husband, Earle, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Janice Lowe and her husband, Clifford, of Sumner; four grandchildren, Nicole Sylvester and her husband, Michael, of Greene, Joshua, Jacob and Jonathan Carlton, all of North Jay; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Jack and Scout Sylvester, all of Greene; a special “son,” Arthur Lavoie of Jay; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bob on Oct. 11, 2010; siblings, Norman Allanach, Arlene Haynes, Harry Allanach, Ruth York, Rita Allanach, Gladys Allanach and Christopher Allanach Jr.
