LIVERMORE FALLS — Norbert “Norby” J. Chessie, 67, a resident of Livermore Falls, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, at his home surrounded by his loving wife, family and friends.
He was born Oct. 15, 1944, in McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of Gabriel and Irene (Foley) Chessie. He was a 1963 graduate of Mexico High School.
On April 20, 1968, he married his wife of 43 years, Joan E. Chiasson of Mexico. Norby and Joan moved to Livermore Falls, where they worked and raised their family. Norby had worked as a paper tester in the lab for IP and Verso Paper Mill in Jay, retiring in 2009.
Norbert was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a “rabid” New York Yankees fan, a member of Sons of AmVet Lane Dube Post 33, and Hillside Sportsman Club.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Joan E. Chessie of Livermore Falls; two daughters and their husbands, Erica and Todd Vachon of Portland and Amy and Sean Mitchell of Brentwood, N.H.; four grandchildren, Will and Ben Vachon and Alexander and Cameron Mitchell; brothers and sisters, Sylvia Belanger of Norway, Elaine Tibbetts and Philip Carrier of Dixfield, Theresa and Victor Thibodeau of Roxbury, Dennis Chessie of Washington State, Jane and David Swan of Cumberland, Joe Chessie of Washington State, Mary and Tim Rinaldo of Dixfield, Monica Williams of Palm Harbor, Fla., Christopher Chessie of Mexico, Joanne Chessie of Louisville, Ky., Maureen and Tom Brodeur of North Attleboro, Mass., and Jack and Lynne Cravalho of Bridgeport, Conn.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gary Chessie.
