LEWISTON — The International Fire & Police Winter Games charity hockey tournament will take place from Jan. 16 to 18 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The teams this year are a mix between fire, police and military. This is a charity event to benefit the Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Maine Special Olympics.

A day ticket for $10 includes all games on one day; a tournament pass for $15 includes the entire tournament as well as the championship game at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18.

On Monday and Tuesday, games will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the gold and silver medal games taking place starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18.

On Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., there will be special dignitaries as guest speakers, entertainment and a closing ceremony, which includes the trophy, IFPWG gold and silver medals to each player and the presentation of two promotional checks to the Maine Special Olympics and the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The Lewiston potentate, Barry Gates will be there as well as other dignitaries from the Shriners from headquarters in Boston; Robert MacDonald, Lewiston mayor; Mike Bussiere, Lewiston chief of police; and Paul LeClair, Lewiston fire chief. Lisa Bird from Maine Special Olympics accompanied by a few of her Olympians from Special Olympics will be there too.

There will be vendors at the event, and the IFPWG committee will sell T-shirts and sweatshirts to raise money for their charities. There will be a daily 50/50.

Pedro O’Hara’s will host a welcome party to all athletes, family and friends at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15.

Gritty’s in Auburn will host the IFPWG farewell party, following the championship game on Wednesday evening, starting at 8 p.m.
