Instead of helping, a passing motorist who stopped when he saw a vehicle stuck by the  roadside in Sebago sexually assaulted the driver and robbed her, police said.

The woman, 41, got out of her vehicle, which was stuck on ice, when a man stopped his pickup truck with an offer of help on Saturday at about 12:30 a.m.

He attacked the woman and sexually assaulted her repeatedly, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in Portland, which is investigating the incident.

After the assault, the man took money from the woman’s vehicle then fled, leaving the injured woman by the roadside.

The man drove a gray or dark-colored GMC full-size pickup truck featuring a “Ski-Doo” sticker in the right lower corner of the back window, authorities wrote in a news release. The truck was towing a two-sled trailer and had one red and one yellow snowmobile on it. The truck had a New Hampshire registration.

The man was described as 6-feet-tall, weighing roughly 170 pounds, wearing a dark hooded jacket, “beanie” style cap and gold-framed glasses.

Authorities released a composite sketch of the man. Anyone with information about the man or the incident is asked to call Detective Sgt. Jim Estabrook at 207-774-1444, ext. 2108 or an anonymous tip line, at 207-774-1444, ext. 2208. Confidential email tips can be left at www.cumberlandso.org.
