FARMINGTON — Reta A. Dumas, 45, a resident of Pittston, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, surrounded by her loving family at Orchard Park; following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 28, 1966, in Biddeford, the daughter of Kenneth and Barbara (McAvey) Johnson Sr. She attended school at Livermore Falls High School. Reta later received her CNA certification and her associates degree in business. She worked for Home Care for Maine.

Reta was very artistic making some beautiful pieces from stained glass; she also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading, movies and animals. Reta was especially close to her nieces, Danielle and Kendra Peart and loved spending time and doing special things with them.

God brought Scott into Reta’s life shortly before her diagnosis. Together with a lot of love and laughter they fought this disease until Scott’s passing in October 2011. Reta was known for her upbeat and courageous attitude; she always kept smiling through good times and bad, she was a loving and devoted daughter, sister and aunt. She was truly an inspiration to those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her brother, Kenneth Johnson Jr. and his wife, Fawn, of Iowa; her sister, Cynthia Peart and her fiance, Dennis McNeil of Jay; nieces and nephews, Austin, Dustin, Dakota, Danielle and Kendra; and special friends, Ray and Geri Patterson.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her longtime companion, Scott Kaufman.
