AUBURN — Carole Anderson Gardner, 68, a Portland resident, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 24, surrounded by many family members and longtime friends at the Hospice House.

She was born in Lewiston, March 19, 1943, to the late Wilbur and Helen Anderson. Carole was educated in Monmouth schools, graduating from Monmouth Academy and Husson College in Bangor.

Carole’s treasured profession was working as an ophthalmic technician for a Portland ophthamologist for many years and later as a customer service representative for L.L. Bean.

Carole maintained a very active and vigorous lifestyle, which included kayaking, tennis, golf, biking and cross country skiing. Her continuous connections with family and life-long freinds was Carole’s priority. Summers at Island Pond created wonderful memories for Carole’s family and friends.

Her vibrant spirit and compassion for others was concurrent with her involvement with hospice in Lewiston as a volunteer.

Carole is survived by her loving companion, Roger Knauff; sister, Judy Powers and husband, David; daughter, Shelli Pelletier and husband, Paul; sons, Jeff Gardner and wife, Hazar and Brian Gardner and wife, Michelle; nine grandchildren; and several nieces.

A special thanks to the Hospice House for their invaluable and sensitive guidance in the end of life journey.
