LIVERMORE FALLS — Two new RSU 73 ad hoc committees forming to address building renovations and addition on the Jay high school, and disposition of the Livermore Falls middle and high schools have set initial meetings.

Building Disposition Subcommittee Chairwoman Jackie Knight of Livermore Falls has set the first meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Cedar Street Learning Complex in Livermore Falls.

The committee also includes, so far, teacher Chris Ellingwood, students Ashley Robbins and Erin Gatz, Livermore resident Rick Parker, Livermore Falls resident Tony Flagg, and Jay resident Gerry Hutchinson, Superintendent Robert Wall said Wednesday. Also on the committee is RSU Maintenance and Transportation Director Ken Vining or a delegated representative. High school principals will be involved as needed.

The charge of the Building Disposition Subcommittee will be to study the options for closed school buildings in Livermore Falls. The committee is also charged with making a recommendation on whether the buildings are to remain intact and making recommendations that would enable the buildings to be maintained using a minimum of taxpayer funds.

Building Addition Subcommittee Chairwoman Mary Redmond-Luce of Jay has set the first meeting for that panel at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the library of Spruce Mountain High School North Campus in Jay, Wall said.

The names of most of this committee’s members were unknown Wednesday.

Each of the committees should have two teachers, one from each high school campus, one citizen representative from each of the three towns, one student from each campus, RSU 73 maintenance and transportation director or representative, principals from both high schools.

Each committee is led by one school board director. The committees will make recommendations to the board’s facilities committee.

The Building Addition Subcommittee’s charge is to determine the scope of the project to build an addition to Jay high school. The committee would have to determine how many square feet are needed, configuration of space, parking and site improvements, and what is needed for fixed and movable equipment and fixtures.
