WILTON — Wilton Fish and Game Association will host an ice fishing derby from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Free Fishing Day, Sunday, Feb. 19, on Wilson Lake.

All early birds who want to get started early to fish can register for a $5 fee at the club house on Route 2 at 6 a.m. or presale tickets are available at Wilton Hardware Store. There will also be a hut at the boat launch to register at 9 a.m.

Emily McCabe from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will hold a free family fishing clinic for all who would like to learn how to ice fish. The program “Hooked on Fishing” is for children as well as adults.

The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. at the boat launch. No experience is required. Bait and equipment will be provided. Dress warm. Snacks and hot beverages will be available.

All participants 15 years old and under will be entered into a drawing for the grand door prize of a Youth Lifetime Fishing License donated by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The drawing takes place at 4 p.m. at the club house.

Additional door prizes include a cord of split wood delivered within a 25-mile radius, a set of ice fishing traps and more.

The final weigh in of fish will end at 4 p.m. at the club house.

Prizes for adults: first place, Eskimo Fat-Fish 949 ice fishing shelter; second place, $100 cash; third place, family membership to Wilton Fish and Game and a jig stick.

Youth prizes: first place, ice fishing pack with set of Jack Traps; second place, set of Max Traps ice fishing traps; third place, jig pole and tackle.

Ticket is required at final weigh-in. Frozen fish will not be accepted at weigh-in.
