FARMINGTON — Albert Ernest Soucy, 86, a longtime resident of Jay, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, early Friday, Feb. 10, at Sandy River Center.

He was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Livermore Falls, the son of Ernest and Regina (DeGrace) Soucy. He attended school in Jay. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Pasadena having the honor of being named a plank holder when the ship was commissioned. Albert was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 6 Battle Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Occupation of Japan Medal, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 Battle Stars.

On Sept. 14, 1946, in Temple, he married his wife of 65 years, Adeline “Bobbie” Meader. Albert worked for IP at the Otis Mill in the boiler house as a turbine engineer, retiring in 1980. Albert also owned and operated Soucy’s TV and Appliances from 1952 to 1993, and was part owner of Aunt Bobbie’s Crafts and Gift Shop.

Albert later received his honorary diploma in 2002 from Jay High School during the graduation ceremony of his granddaughter, Elizabeth Soucy Newkirk. Albert was very active in the community, he served as past president of the Livermore Falls Rotary Club; and also served as secretary and treasurer for 25 years, served for two years as Sergeant at Arms, during which time he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award.

He was a lifetime member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 in Jay and the George Bunton American Legion Post 10 in Livermore Falls. Albert was also a member of the IP Quarter Century Club. Albert was an avid Red Sox fan and during his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball for the local town teams. He was a baseball card collector, and loved to play cards, especially 63 and Rummy. Albert took great pleasure in yard work around his home.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline Soucy of Jay; his daughter, Kimberly Cook and her husband, David, of Jay; three sons, Ted Soucy and companion, Donna Boivin, of Livermore Falls, Kevin Soucy and his wife, Linda Dolloff, of Sterling, Mass., and Daniel Soucy and his wife, Ellen, of Houlton; grandchildren, Jennifer Ward and husband, Ryan of Lincoln, Thomas Plourde and his wife, Melissa of Jay, Allyson Cook of North Granby, Conn., Jason Soucy and his wife, Trish, of Mechanic Falls, Andrew Soucy and fiancee, Charlene March, of Brookline, Mass., Brice Soucy of Manhattan and Elizabeth Soucy Newkirk and her husband, J.P., of Waterford, N.Y.; 11 great-grandchildren, Madison, Tanner, Reilly, Carter, Adria, Ella, Anna, Kimberly, Brittany, Jonah and Julia; godchildren, Rita Farrington of Jay and Carol Gould of South Paris; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Yvette Gould.
