AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Without debate or a roll-call vote, the Maine House has given initial approval to a budget rewrite that closes a $120 million hole and makes cuts in Medicaid programs.
The House vote Tuesday morning was mainly a procedural step to get the bill in position for possible amendments. There was no roll-call vote on the bill, so it was impossible to gauge the level of support for a bill that would eventually need a two-thirds vote. There was also so sign of amendments.
Gov. Paul LePage, who’s due back in Maine on Tuesday after a Florida vacation, has reservations about parts of the budget, saying it doesn’t go far enough in reducing Medicaid costs. Spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett says LePage will closely review any bill that makes it to his desk.
