AUGUSTA — Barbara Peters Ring, 85, died Feb. 13, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care- Glenridge, due to complications from Alzheimer’s and stroke.

She was born in Boston, Mass., March 3, 1926, and earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Boston University. She married her husband of 63 years, Dr. Carleton B. Ring, July 2, 1949.

They lived in Portland and Sanford for a number of years, before moving to Auburn in 1959, where Carleton practiced veterinary medicine for the next 53 years.

Barbara was active in the community, serving on many boards and participating in the arts and culture of the area, including long-time contributions to the L/A Community Little Theater, Androscoggin Chorale and the Auburn Art Club. She was honored as Auburn’s Citizen of the Year in 1984.

She was a member of the High Street Congregational Church in Auburn, where she sang in the choir each Sunday for 50 years.

Survivors include her husband, Carl; her daughter, Cheryl and partner, Stefanie Barley, of Hallowell; her son, Dr. David C. Ring and his wife, Dr. Karen Kleinfelder, of La Habra Heights, Calif.; her brother-in-law, Russell Ring of Unity; her brother-in-law, Lowell Savage of Marietta, Ga.; cousins, nieces and nephews; and many dear friends all over the world.

Barbara will be long-remembered for her steadfast kindness and caring of others, which even includes her residence at Glenridge, where, as Karen, her daughter-in-law, said, she made “her last stop on making the world a better place for those around her.”
