PORTLAND — The Maine Maritime Museum and Maine Irish Heritage Center will host Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Barbara Walsh, who on Sunday, March 4, will discusses her latest book, “August Gale.”
Sixty-eight years after a Newfoundland hurricane claimed the lives of several of her ancestors, Walsh searches for memories of the August gale and the grandfather who abandoned her dad as a young boy.
Together, she and her father journey to Newfoundland to learn all they can about the 1935 hurricane. Along the way Walsh’s father opens up about the man he cannot forgive and she hopes to help her father heal and redeem the grandfather she has never met.
The lecture and book signing will be at 2 p.m. at the Maine Irish Heritage Center, at State and Gray streets.
