I believe that all the presidents, regardless of party and differences, deserve the public’s respect.

How fortunate we are, to live in a country that allows free speech, and allows us to voice our differences and opinions.

Should we, then, abuse that right by calling the president a Marxist, a statist, a socialist and communist as William Van Tassel did in his letter (Feb. 11)?

As a Christian who quotes passages from the Bible (that fit his own agenda), as he accuses the president of doing the same, as he quotes God, speaking through Paul — “If any would not work, neither should he eat,” — Van Tassel must realize that there are different circumstances. He might have also read the passages saying, “Heal the sick, help the poor, feed the hungry,” and “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”

What is happening to the nation? Politicians play political games, in excess, to make sure that the government doesn’t work.

The name-calling has a far-reaching effect and the people are already concerned with sick minds and terrorists in this country.

I hope many have read about Ike Libby of Dixfield, who delivered oil to those struggling to heat their homes (Feb. 11). That was a heart-warming story. His greatest reward is how he has inspired others with a real life lesson.
