AUBURN — BJ’s Wholesale Club has raised $1,968.75 for the Good Shepherd Food-Bank.

The donation, as well as the donation of 77,315 pounds of food to the food bank since April 2011, is part of a corporate effort to end hunger.

Between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, BJ’s Wholesale Clubs nationwide urged Facebook fans to help end hunger. For every new “like” or “share,” BJ’s donated $1 to Feeding America on top of $150,000 the company had already committed. The 30,000 new likes and shares, along with a donation booster campaign, resulted in an additional $60,000 donated to Feeding America, totalling nearly $210,000.

The money raised is meant to help support transportation costs incurred in shipping food from more than 190 BJ’s Clubs to 44 food banks in 15 states, including the Good Shepherd Food-Bank in Auburn.
