RUMFORD — Warm weather prompted the Parks and Recreation Department on Thursday to cancel its annual Family Fun Day on Saturday at the DARE ice skating rink beside Route 2.

Temperatures in the 40s on Thursday left a growing puddle of standing water on one rink. Additionally, frost leaving the ground left a muddy mess of tire tracks in the parking area beside it.

“It is just inclement warm weather and we had to cancel it, that’s all,” Mike Mills, department director, said Thursday afternoon.

“Both rinks are pretty well shot. We probably could have had a pool party or something.”

Mills said Friday’s forecast is for continued warm temperatures and rain.

“Next year, we plan to put it on a little bit earlier in the season,” he said.
