LEWISTON — The Waterville girls made it back-to-back titles and the York boys won their first title ever in the Class B state indoor track and field championships at Bates College Monday.

Waterville breezed to its fourth title in six years with 118 points, followed by Greely (73.40), Fryeburg Academy (44), Lake Region (33), Winslow (32) and Gray-New Gloucester (16).

Lake Region freshman Kate Hall and Waterville junior Bethanie Brown were the individual stars of the day. Hall won three events — the 55 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and long jump. Brown set a new state record in the mile with her time of 5:02.15 and also won the 800-meter and two-mile runs.

Amanda Peterson of Gray-New Gloucester finished second in the 200 meter dash and fourth in the 55 meter dash. Teammate Sandra Ricardi was fourth in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump.

Poland’s Katie Letourneau was ninth in the mile. Marley Byrne of St. Dom’s was fourth in the triple jump.

York prevented a Waterville sweep by edging the Purple Panters, 67.50 to 56.50, for the boys’ championship. Falmouth (52), Greely (49) and Orono (33) rounded out the top five.

Denzel Tomaszewski of Wells set a new state mark in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.58 seconds, nipping the old record by 0.01 of a second.

Gray-New Gloucester’s Elijah Locke finished third in the high jump.
