PORTLAND — Delma L. LaPerle, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 19, surrounded by his wife and children. He was formerly of Rumford.

He was born in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada, April 9, 1923, son of Alfred and Fabiola (Cote) LaPerle. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford class of 1941. He worked at Oxford Paper Co. in Rumford and also owned and operated LaPerle Bros. Memorials in Rumford with his brother, Roma.

Delma was a communicant of the Parish of The Holy Savior St. Athanasius-St. John Church in Rumford. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed the family gatherings. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and skiing. He also enjoyed his camp, which he built, on Worthley Pond in Peru.

He was married in Rumford, Aug. 12, 1950, to the love of his life and best friend, Doris “Dodi” Terrell, who survives of Portland. Other survivors include two daughters, Michelle Kane and her husband, Michael, of Gray and Lisa Freitas and her husband, Oscar, of Cape Elizabeth; a son, Geary LaPerle and his wife, Debby, of Auburn; six grandchildren, Sarah and Adam LaPerle, Devon and Alyssa Freitas, Matthew and Joshua Kane.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Donat, Alva and Roma; and sisters, Leona, Elodia, Rhea and Diana.
