AUGUSTA — Maine officials say criminal tax charges against two-time Olympic gold medal winner Seth Wescott have been dropped.
The snowboardcross champion, who lives in Carrabassett Valley, was charged in January with five misdemeanor counts of failure to pay state income taxes and five counts of failure to file state income tax returns from 2006 through 2010.
Wescott’s attorney, Stephen Langsdorf, tells the Kennebec Journal the tax issues have been resolved. Court documents indicated Wescott owes about $42,000 in taxes, but Langsdorf said the actual amount is lower.
Assistant Attorney General Gregg Bernstein said the criminal charges were dropped Feb. 17, and the matter is now considered a civil case.
In a statement, Wescott said he takes full responsibility for not being up to date on his taxes.
