RUMFORD — There’s nothing like a little zany competition to bring communities and “inflated” egos together for a good cause.

The St. Patrick’s Day Sumo Wrestling Throwdown Showdown, which features sumo-suit wrestling at its funniest, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at Mountain Valley High School.

It’s a fundraiser for the Greater Rumford Community Center and its programs.

Teen band Mars Rocks will play during the debut show. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children at the door. No advance tickets will be sold.

The main event is a tag-team match with Mountain Valley High School Principal Matt Gilbert and Assistant Principal Chris Decker against Dirigo High School Principal Mike Poulin and Assistant Principal Chris Moreau.

That first tag-team match is likely to be overshadowed by other wrestlers, not to mention Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant as the master of ceremonies.

* Trudi Cormier versus Ryanne Brown, both from Mountain Valley Middle School;

* Paula Cunningham versus Julie Burgess, both from Rumford Community Home;

* Dan Glover of Glover’s Auto Repair versus Kevin Prevost of Dixfield Elementary School;
