AUBURN — John J. Cleveland has announced his campaign to represent state Senate District 15, which includes Auburn, Poland, New Gloucester and Durham.

Cleveland served in the state Senate for four terms from 1990 to 1998, serving on the Appropriations Committee and as Senate chairman of the Utilities and Energy Committee. He also served four years as the mayor of Auburn and four years as city councilor for Ward 5, representing New Auburn. For 10 years he served as the Androscoggin County Register of Probate.

Cleveland owns a consulting business, Community Dynamics Corp., which has provided planning, economic and community development services in Maine to public and business clients for nearly 25 years. “During this time I have helped communities and businesses access millions of dollars in community and economic development funds that have improved local communities and created scores of jobs,” Cleveland said.

“The most important issue for this area is the economy and job creation. Far too many people are still struggling just to make ends meet. I believe both my business experience creating jobs and my public experience making government work for everyone has prepared me well to undertake this challenge during this difficult economic time,” he said.

Cleveland lives in Auburn with his wife, Debora. They have two sons, Nathan and Benjamin. Cleveland is also active in community service as a board member of Museum L-A, member of the Androscoggin Chamber, vice chair of the Auburn Community Development Loan Committee, and a founding member of Auburn-Lewiston Breakfast Rotary Club.
