GRAY — Patricia Piper Day of Gray, passed away Saturday, April 21, surrounded by her children.

She was born May 31, 1927, the daughter of Frank S. and Frances Cushing Piper. She lived in Parsonsfield as a small child, moving to Cornish, where her father opened his law practice. She graduated from Cornish High School in 1945, and attended the University of Maine at Orono after which she worked as a medical technologist at Central Maine General Hospital.

On Dec. 26, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard F. Day. A year later, he was discharged from the U.S. Air Force, and they settled down in Cornish.

In 1958, the family moved to Lisbon, and in l964, to Gray. In 1983, the family winterized their summer home on Little Sebago Lake and moved there full-time. The family had spent wonderful summers there going back to Mrs. Day’s own childhood. It was her favorite place in the world, and the family’s years there were among her happiest.

Mrs. Day’s family was her joy and life’s work. She made each member feel cherished for being exactly who they were. Her husband of nearly 60 years and a granddaughter, Katie Leavitt, passed away in 2008.

She is survived by four daughters, Kristen Powers of Lewiston, Bethany Stackhouse of Lisbon, Heidi Hamilton of New Gloucester and Tamara Leavitt of Gray; a son, Stephen Day of Gray; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
