AUBURN — To kick-start physical activity and learning throughout the summer, the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA will celebrate Healthy Kids Day, sponsored by Anthem, with a free community event on Saturday, May 5, for kids and families.

“At Healthy Kids Day, we’re helping parents take on summer by taking steps to ensure that their kids stay physically and intellectually active,” said Rachel Doane, fitness and wellness director.

“With summer just around the corner, there is no better time than now to begin developing a healthy routine that helps kids be healthier and sharper for when the next school year begins,” she said.

Healthy Kids Day, sponsored by Anthem, will take place at the Y from 12 to 3 p.m., and will feature activities such as gym games, family swim, a pitch zone, frozen yogurt, arts and crafts, healthy snacks, a Story Walk put on by Healthy Androscoggin, informational booths, finger printing, obstacle course, tie-dye t-shirt making (bring a white t-shirt), face painting and more.

Healthy Kids Day is a free community event, and the first 75 children to pre-register at the Y will receive a free t-shirt the day of the event. For more information stop by the Y in Auburn at 62 Turner St. (next to the county Courthouse) or call 795-4095.
