PORTLAND — The University of Maine baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and added three more in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Boston College 9-4 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

Michael Fransoso led the Black Bears (26-22) with three hits in the game.

Maine grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Fransoso doubled to left center field and scored on a Tyler Patzalek sacrifice fly.

Maine added to its lead in the bottom of the second inning. Fran Whitten and Brian Dorandrew back-to-back walks. Sam Balzano singled to left field to load the bases. Troy Black singled to center field driving home Whitten.

BC (21-31) grabbed the lead in the top of the sixth inning. Rob Moir and Spenser Payne had back-to-back hits. Andrew Lawrence then homered over the right field fence.

Fransoso led off the seventh with a single and went to third when Patzalek doubled. Scott Heath was intentionally walked to load the bases. Alex Calbick  reached on an error that plated two runs. Whitten then singled to right field, driving home Heath. Calbick scored when Doran singled to left field.

In the eighth, Fransoso singled and scored when Heath doubled. Patzalek, who had singled, and Heath both scored when Calbick doubled to right field.

Jonathan Balentina went 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief to pick up his third win of the season. Heath pitched the ninth for the Black Bears.
