Historical museum open

MEXICO — The Mexico Historical Society Museum will be open on May 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the summer. The regular meeting will be held on Monday, May 21, at 12 p.m. in the Cal Lyons room with a potluck lunch. For more information call 364-224 or 369-9923.

Horse show season opens

ANDOVER — The Ellis River Riders will be opening their horse show season on Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20. The public is invited to watch and admission is FREE. Shows start at 9 a.m. both days.

Sons of Italy to meet May 21

RUMFORD — Gorizia Lodge 467 of the Sons of Italy will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21. The meeting will be held at the hall in Smithcrossing. This will be the last meeting until August. All members are encouraged to attend.

Cemetery annual meeting

RUMFORD — The Rumford Center Cemetery Association annual meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at the Rumford Center Methodist Church.

Plant sale in Canton

CANTON — A plant sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27, at the Heritage Park, Route 108.

The sale is sponsored by the Canton Parks and Trails Committee.

Puzzle Mountain hike

NEWRY — Mahoosuc Land Trust will host a hike of Puzzle Mountain at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 26. The hike is of moderate difficulty, with some scrambling near the summit of the 6.5-mile round trip.

There is a shorter hike of 2.4 miles with excellent views of Grafton Notch from the rock ledges. Those looking for added difficulty may add to the 6.5-mile trip by hiking the Loopette trail around the summit of Puzzle, 1.5 miles.

Bring water, snacks, lunch for the five- to six-hour hike. Meet at the parking area 4.7 miles north on Route 26 from intersection with Route 2 in Newry, right hand side, across from Eddy Road.
