WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Barbara McAlister Kennedy, 85, beloved wife of the late Bruce Kennedy, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 13.
 
She had strong roots in Maine. She grew up and was educated in the Portland area, lived in Livermore Falls and worked for International Paper Company for many years. In 1986, she and her husband, Bruce, moved to Virginia to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.
 
She served as a volunteer librarian in the Prince William Library System and is lovingly remembered by her friends and colleagues. She also spent many wonderful vacations with her children and grandchildren in Lake Anna, Va.
 
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Kathleen Herer and son-in-law, Paul Herer of Woodbridge, Va.; she is lovingly remembered by her brother, Arthur McAlister; sister, Agnes McAlister Crooke; two grandchildren, David and Jennifer; and four great-grandchildren.
 
She was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia Kennedy; and brother, Herbert McAlister.
